Entering the season of Advent

advent
Gospel: Luke 21:34-36

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy
from carousing and drunkenness
and the anxieties of daily life,
and that day catch you by surprise like a trap.
For that day will assault everyone
who lives on the face of the earth.
Be vigilant at all times
and pray that you have the strength
to escape the tribulations that are imminent
and to stand before the Son of Man.”
Reflection:

As we begin to enter the season of Advent, we are reminded that we should be prepared and not be preoccupied with the trappings of our lives.   It’s easy for us to get distracted with ambition, wealth and power at the cost of our spiritual growth.   How often have we forgotten to pray when everything in our life goes on smooth sailing, and yet, we find ourselves on our knees when we are faced with problems and hardship?

Yes, Christ is indeed coming.  Yet we should also recognize his coming, not only at the end of time, but periodically in the most blessed sacrament. Therefore, we should not stay away but receive Christ sincerely in holy communion. Perhaps if we have such high regard for the blessed sacrament, we would find ourselves always prepared and happily anticipating His coming in glory.

Action Step:
Ask yourself today, at this moment, are you ready to meet Christ?  Think about what you can do today to prepare for His coming.
